Before that, powering an attachment was done primarily thru the use of belts. A simple way to look at multi-speed PTO is to look at it like an overdrive gear. Here are a couple of examples of how you can use these options to fine tune your work. This technology is not new at all.

The PTO will stop turning when I depress the clutch. Until next time, Thanks for stopping! Share this: Twitter Facebook. Like this: Like Loading Previous Post views on wide area walk mowers. Although there is not much force turning the shaft if there is enough to turn whatever you have attached winch, post hole digger etc. If you got caught up in it you could not get out.Farmers talk about how tough their work is, but I see you riding around in that big tractor with the air conditioner going full-blast.

I counter by asking them if they have ever sat in a parked car with the windows up in the full sun — and follow by asking them to consider the realities of a tractor cab.

Sitting in a tractor cab with a malfunctioning air conditioner is misery. A basic knowledge of the principles of refrigeration and operation of the cab air conditioning system will help to better understand the maintenance and service procedures involved.

As usual, the Internet can be a helpful place to gather information about your system if and when it malfunctions. Von H. Jarrett, extension agricultural engineer at Utah State University, has some great information about the operation and service of your air conditioner.

All air conditioners use the same cycle of operation as compression, condensation, expansion and evaporation.

It is necessary to know about pressures and temperatures so that pressure gauges can be installed in various locations to indicate a malfunction. The ounce disposable can is the most convenient container for recharging and servicing a cab air conditioning system.

However, eye protection, frostbite, heat and inhaling can be dangerous to the serviceman. Also use care in handling refrigerant drums and cans in a passenger car or truck.

For this reason, a small amount of oil is circulated through the system with the refrigerant. Air conditioners work on a two-sided system: a high side and a low side. If your system fits these parameters, your system is functioning normally. Your system may reflect low pressures on both sides and is not cooling adequately. If the evaporator is warm to the touch, and there are visible bubbles or foam in the sight glass, then the system is suffering from an inadequate charge of refrigerant.

Check the system for leaks and repair as necessary. Recharge the system, but again remember, the loss of Freon also results in a loss of oil. Make sure to add oil as well as refrigerant.

If the same conditions as above exist, but the drier is cool or cold to the touch, then there is some sort of restriction in the drier. You will need to replace the drier and flush the system, as the desiccant bag has probably ruptured and contaminated the system. If the drier is warm or hot to the touch, the expansion valve is plugged or defective.

This is probably from debris in the system. Replace the expansion valve and flush the system. You may find that the pressures are normal but you still have an issue with the operating temperatures at the vent. This may be from a defective heater control valve that is not cutting off the heater core completely. The PTO is the mechanism that turns on the blades located under the mower deck.

The PTO works off of a volt system. The electric clutch is operated by a switch located on the dashboard of the lawn mower. When the lawn mower is running and the switch on the dashboard is engaged to the "on" position, the blades will start to turn.

If they don't, you have to troubleshoot a portion of the electrical system. Open the hood of the lawn mower. Directly behind the engine is the battery. Take the negative - lead of the volt meter and and clip it on the negative - battery post. Turn your volt meter to the volt setting.

The meter should read volts. If it reads less then 11, replace the battery. Check the battery to see that it is between volts. If it is, your battery is charged. Start the lawn mower while the volt meter is still attached. Your meter should read between volts while the lawn mower is running. If it reads higher than 15 or lower then 13, the voltage regulator alternator needs replacement.

Check to see that the volt meter reads between volts. If it is, your voltage regulator alternator is working fine. Remove the volt meter leads from the battery.

Turn off the lawn mower.

The electric clutch is located under the front of the frame and is bolted to the crank shaft of the engine. On the top of the clutch there is a connector. Remove the wire harness connector, place the flat head screw driver under the tab of the connector and lift the tab and pull connector free. Look inside the wire harness connector for two metal tabs.

Take the negative lead from the volt meter and clip it to the other tab. Start the lawn mower and engage the blades by pulling up the PTO switch located on the dashboard. If the volt meter reads 12 volts, replace the electric PTO. Based out of Orlando, Fla. She maintains a popular interior design blog where she gives advice and design tips.

I tried everything I pushed the PTO on and off I also put it auto mode and turned the PTO switch on and off.

I finally got frustrated shut the tractor off, went inside, and got something to eat. This happened to me several times today. The tractor is only two weeks old. Does anyone know what it is?

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Thanks, Stevee.

Reply With Quote. Re: PTO Switch not working Haven't had that problem with my new HST thank goodnessbut considering the way it's all wired it is most likely a relay issue. It could just be making poor contact in the socket or it could be a faulty relay getting hot and contrary.

I'd use the manual to identify the PTO relays, unplug each one and plug it back in to reseat them and ensure they're making good contact. I'd imagine that's the issue being new and having been shipped, some things can rattle loose. If reseating the relays in their sockets doesn't fix the issue, I'd talk to the dealer and explain the issue. Since it is only happening when hot they may schedule a time to send a tech out at a time you can have it hot enough to be acting up for them to diagnose.Login or Sign Up.

The E offers a maximum hydraulic flow of The John Deere E also weighs over pounds more than the Mahindra. When it comes to operating implements and lifting heavy objects, the more weight, the better!

The John Deere E provides a clean operator platform with foot pedals and transmission levers placed conveniently and intuitively. Similarly, the E features steps on both sides of the tractor, while the Mahindra does not offer a right hand step. The E also features plexiglass debris deflectors that also deflect engine heat away from the operator.

This can lead to operator fatigue and discomfort in hot conditions. The John Deere E also features intuitively placed, color-coded controls for maximum ease of use.

Most of the controls of the Mahindra are all the same color and awkwardly placed. Both the E and the Mahindra come with cup holders. However, the cup holder on the Mahindra is awkwardly placed, hanging off the inside of the left fender, which can not only make it hard to reach, but it also proves to be an obstacle when getting on and off the tractor.

The cup holder on the John Deere E is placed conveniently on the right fender; out of the way, but easy enough to reach. The Mahindra tractor has many mechanical linkages that are exposed underneath the tractor, making them very vulnerable to ground debris and damage.

On the other hand, the John Deere E moves the linkages safely out of the way to minimize the risk of damage. On the E, the battery can be easily accessed by lifting the hood from the front of the tractor.

The s hood tilts forward from the steering column, which makes maintenance more difficult and time consuming. The oil pan on the Mahindra is split right down the middle of the drive shaft, which means you have to remove two plugs, as opposed to the convenient oil pan design on the John Deere E.

The John Deere E is designed to provide easy access to all regular service points, which results in minimized service time and downtime. The poor design choices on the Mahindra make even the most routine maintenance a time consuming task. Facebook Twitter YouTube.
